Synopsis

Mahiru Shiina is a human angel. She is beautiful, intellectual, and athletic, and she excels at all she does. In contrast, Amane Fuji Miya is a cynic who loves to remain alone. Despite living next door, their paths had never intersected. That is, until one rainy day, when Amane lends Mahiru an umbrella. In gratitude, Mahiru vows to reciprocate the favor by looking after Amane when he becomes unwell. Thus begins an unexpected friendship between the angel and the cynic, as Mahiru gradually but steadily softens Amane's hard exterior.

The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten (お隣の天使様にいつの間にか駄目人間にされていた件, Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsu no Ma ni ka Dame Ningen ni Sareteita Ken, lit. The Case of the Neighbourhood Angel Turning Me Into a Degenerate Unaware) is a Japanese light novel series written by Saekisan and illustrated by Hanekoto. Originally published online on Shōsetsuka ni Narō, SB Creative has released nine volumes of the series under their GA Bunko label since June 2019. Yen Press holds the license to publish the series in North America in English. A manga adaptation with art by Wan Shibata and composition by Suzu Yūki has been serialized via Square Enix's online manga magazine Manga Up! since January 2022. As of December 2023, its chapters have been collected in three tankōbon volumes. An anime television series adaptation produced by Project No.9 aired from January to March 2023. A second season has been announced.

Plot


Amane lives alone in an apartment, and the most beautiful girl in school, Mahiru, lives just next door. They have almost never spoken despite being in the same class—until the day he sees her in distress on a rainy day and lends her his umbrella. To return the favor, she offers him help around the house, and a relationship slowly begins to blossom as the distance between them closes.

The light novel series originally began serialization online on the website Shōsetsuka ni Narō in December 2018. SB Creative then acquired the series and has published nine volumes under their GA Bunko label since June 2019, while Yen Press holds the license for English release in North America.[4] The English translation is done by Nicole Wilder.[5]
